Set during the end of a nineteenth century on a fictional Earth, D.Gray-man mostly centers around 15-year-old Allen Walker, who is gifted with the ability to control a weaponized form of a divine substance from ages past, called Innocence, and becomes an Exorcist of the Black Order. This secretive organization aims to stop the plan set in motion by the Millennium Earl to destroy all life on Earth, thus 'cleansing' it. But the Earl has raised an army of Akuma, created by taking advantage of grief over a loved one's death, and summoned the direct descendants of Noah himself, the 13-strong Noah family, to aid him in his second attempt. Because of the Akuma's ability to wear a human's skin, they are nearly undetectable by any human. Allen proves to be a powerful asset as his 'cursed' left eye is able to detect the Akuma. But soon, this battle nearly turns into a race to collect the 109 Innocence fragments, scattered since the Great Flood of Noah, as the search to find the most powerful Innocence, the 'Great Heart', ensues.

My Review
I love D.Gray-man.It is my favourite Shounen manga of them all.Concerning the story plot,I thought it was quite nice.Compared to the anime version, the manga is bloodier yet nicer in a way. Some parts were really funny unlike the anime. The anime had very loose humour in the begining.I like the art.The art looks raw.It looks like pencil sketch. The pencil sketch look made me like this manga's art. They mixed lots of Bible stuff too.Its not offending really but I think the story will get confusing if u have never heard of the Noah's Ark & stuff. The manga has foul words but very rarely used.I think I saw it once only. The anime censored it.

My Review
I love this manga to bits in fact it is my favourite vampire manga ever besides Millenium Snow. Its sad it is this short.I wished it continued or was made into anime.I love the idea of the girl as the independant gutsy girl & the guy being the flirt. Unlike smut mangas, it is enjoying to see the heroine actually yelling "no!" & smacking the guy on the head.Haha xD. Very cute I got to say.The art is nice, the chibis were cute. The characters were drawn really well especially Kuroboshi(the guy/vampire)I just love his expressions!!!

Original Run: 2002-2006
No.Of Volumes: 12
Publisher: Shuiesha
The Plot
Hiyo Osora failed the entrance exam to the high school she chose, but somehow she receives a strange acceptance letter to SM Academy (Saint Monster Academy) -- which she hadn't even applied to. Thinking that her father, an alumni of the school, must have sent in a reference letter for her, she decides to go to the school. When she first arrives there, while being distracted by the flowers and green nature around her, two hooded people snatch her and bring her to the school president, Kurou Tenma. Fortunately, all that was simply a type of hazing for all new members of the school.

She is surprised to find the school crawling with people who are actually monsters in disguise! The next big shock is being told by Kurou himself that she is his fiancée! She is so shocked she faints. She then wakes up and finds out that Kurou has gone as far as having her room connected to his. The only way she can get out is in his arms with his wings or as we discover later on, a trap door down an enormous amount of stairs (since his room is located in a tower). As Hiyo stays in the school, she becomes more and more used to the monsters of the school, though strange things begin to happen that reveal a stunning revelation about Hiyo -- she is a monster herself; one called Great White Crow who is also rarely seen. Many incidents follow with this exposure of truth.

My Review
I loved WANTED.I never read a manga about pirates before but it certainly was a nce experience in this manga. The Historical attire was a change for me too.It kinda remind me about Pirates Of The Carribean. The main male character looked a lot like Zero from Vampire Knight while the Commander looked like Kaname from Vampire Knight too.The art is nice & so is the story plot.

However, one day she meets Tōya Kanō, a vampire, with the opposite problem: Tōya lives for about one thousand years. It's customary for a vampire at his age of eighteen to choose a human partner to be with for 1000 years who in turn would let him drink their blood and share his life span for the millennium.

Early in the series, Chiyuki offers Tōya her blood, so that she would be able to live longer, but Tōya refuses, claiming he dislikes the sight and taste of blood. In the beginning, he even looks down on humans, believing that they are weak creatures who will only die before him and leave him behind.

My Review
I loved this manga that I finished in a shot. The only thing I disliked was the uncomplete ending.Bisco Hatori wanted to focus on Ouran High School Host Club so she discontinued this series. The art is nice & it seems that Bisco Hatori likes to draw lacey clothing which is of course really cute. The story plot was quite nice.In the end the sad part was the main couple did not confess their love for each other in the end. Not much was known about the characters pasts well afterall the story is incomplete.

Review Section

The Story

I started reading this manga after watching a few episodes of the anime version in which led me to addiction.I love the dark fairytale like theme of the story.Story arcs tend to span over a few chapters.Never too long, it is still hard to wait for the next chapter every month. The stories are interesting & exciting with its twists & turns to the plot. The story is never hard to follow & is not always constantly dark & gloomy.Humour is inserted here & there once in a while twists in situations are very creative.

The Characters

The 2 characters, Sebastian & Ciel are developed well.Ciel is portrayed as intelligent & mature.Although he is mature, he is still a child & the author shows that very clearly through his tiny acts of kindness & sometimes rashness in making decisions.Sebastian has his picture painted as perfect demon.Literally perfect, the author shows him as good... no i mean perfect in every single thing. His identity as a demon is shown in the sins he has with hardly an ounce of empathy (Sounds like I'm bashing him O.0;)Other supporting characters are not fleshed out as much but they too have unique personalities e.g. Grell

The Art

Most girls will love the covers of Sebastian. He is after all super bishounen, an attracting point of the manga's art.Minus the bishounens here the art is just wow.Colours used in the cover volumes are dark & the art has a gothic feel to it.Very victorian, very dark. Details on tea sets & food are drawn in great detail & chibis are drawn cute & simple. The cakes drawn really make me have a sugar crave. The background of old english buildings are gorgeous.

Enjioyment

It was hard waiting for the next chapter every month. The story is just that intriguing.I enjoyed the series greatly.Kuroshitsuji has become one of my personal favourites.

Anime vs Manga

If you are afraid of being bored as you re-read the story again after watching.Don't worry the anime is pretty much different. In fact the story line has been changed. The animes have introduction of characters that do not appear in the manga so you get a different experience.

You may like this if you:

  • Don't mind mild shounen-ai hints
  • Loves gothic & dark fairytales
  • Likes bishounens
  • Like fantasy & mystery
Note:

Kuroshitsuji contains violence. The violence is not too extreme though.
